Erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as ‘Impotence’,
is the incapability to attain or sustain an erection for satisfying sexual
activity. Erectile dysfunction is distinctive from other ailments that conflict
with sexual intercourse, such as lack of sexual desire and difficulties with
ejaculation and orgasm.
Erectiledysfunction (ED, impotence) alters in severity; some men have a total failure
to achieve an erection, others have an irregular ability to attain an erection,
and still, others can support only brief erections. While ED can occur at any
age, it is unusual among young men and more common in the elderly. By age 45,
most men have endured ED at least some of the time.
Erectile
dysfunction can happen if one or more of these conditions are not met. The causesof ED involve Aging, Diabetes
mellitus, Hypertension (high blood pressure), Cardiovascular diseases,
Cigarette smoking, Nerve or spinal cord damage: Material abuse like Marijuana,
heroin, cocaine, and alcohol abuse, Low testosterone levels, Medications
Depression, anxiety and Stress etc.
A
diagnosis of Erectile dysfunction is performed in men who have reverted
inability to achieve and sustain an erection for satisfying sexual performance
for at least three months. Candid interaction between the patient and the
doctor is essential in establishing the diagnosis, assessing its severity, and
discovering the cause. During patient interviews, doctors try to explain the
following questions:
The
Physical Examination can expose clues for physical causes of Erectile
dysfunction. Common Laboratory Tests to evaluate erectile dysfunction include Complete blood Picture, Semen Analysis,
Urinalysis, Lipid profile, Blood glucose levels, Blood Hemoglobin A 1c, Serum
creatinine, Total testosterone levels, PSA (prostate specific antigen) Levels.
A psychosocial analysis using an interview and inquiry may reveal psychological
factors contributing to erectile dysfunction. The sexual partner also may be
questioned to manage expectations and insights encountered during sexual
intercourse.
Ayurveda
defines Erectile dysfunction or ED as follows:
“Sankalpapravano
nityam priyaam vashyaamapi sthreeyam
Na
yaathi lingashaithilyaath kadaachidyaathi vaa yadi!!
Shwaasaarthaha
swinnagaatrshcha moghasankalpacheshtitaha
Mlaanashishnashcha
nirbeejaha syodetat klaibyalaxanam!!”
It
means even after a man has a great urge to do sexual act with a cooperative
partner, he cannot achieve sexual act because of looseness (absence of
erection) of his phallus (penis). Even if he achieves sexual act with his
resolute efforts, he does not get an erection and gets distressed with
tiredness, perspiration and frustration to perform sex. Erectile Dysfunction treatment through ayurveda provides the best
